My apologies to those who are seeing this twice.
This made me smile... a lot. The fact that many of those locked out of the meeting last night circulated a record of their opposition (51, by the way) to this zoning and waited for an opportunity to come in as others exited is very telling.
Y'all are heroes!
As I mentioned in my FB update - when I arrived at a few minutes to five...in my bright yellow "Save Our Cibolo" tee and walked into what felt like a business mixer, I knew we faced a challenge. Many of us work more than one job, have kids, battle traffic, and making it to Council Chambers in time to grab a seat by 6 was not in the cards.
We hope the city will consider a larger venue for the meeting on April 25th.
If this vote follows the same process as the PZ Commission, they will untable the item at the next meeting, and have another opportunity to vote. There will be a citizens' comment period just like any other open meeting.
Although I would urge you to contact Council beforehand!
Councilman Boyd made a very important distinction in a Facebook comment response earlier - what is before City Council is the permanent zoning of this parcel. Council must determine " what is the appropriate zoning for this property, based on where it is, what is around it".
Council is not voting on what the development looks like, just whether MU-2 and R-4 are appropriate for this site. If it is determined to be appropriate, then as mentioned by our City Planner, the 23 acres directly across from 17 Herff is also seen as potentially commercial and high-density. From the March P&Z meeting - "The same would apply across the street as it does at this location. So the MU-2/R-4 zoning is appropriate for this site."
All the dominoes waiting for the first to fall
